For nearly two decades now, Emma Watson has been an household name, as the world fell in love with her portrayal of the famous character Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” film series. She is just in her late 20s, and she already has a very impressive portfolio, which is sure to expand over the years. But, there is more to the multi-talented actress than what meets the eye. - Emma accepted the play the role of Sam in the “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” only because the director Stephen Chbosky told her that the role will be one of the most important parts of her career. He also added that she will get to have a summer of her life and meet some really best friends. She claims that everything he said has come true.
- According to the DVD commentary of the 2007 TV movie “Ballet Shoes,” the baby girl, who plays the role of a three-year-old Pauline Fossil, is in reality Watson’s twin half sisters.
- It was actually her Oxford theater teacher, who suggested her name to the “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” movie’s casting agents. She had nearly five rounds of interviews, before landing the role.
- Emma claimed that although she took the audition of the movie very seriously, she never ever believed that she had any chance to win the role.
- The movie’s producers claimed that they were very much impressed with her self confidence and that she outperformed more than thousands of other girls of her age, who had also auditioned for the role.
- While filming the snowball sequence in the movie “Beauty and the Beast,” it too then entire crew numerous attempts to get a satisfactory hit on her. Towards the end of the several attempts, Watson started to keep moving her face into the line of fire, in an effort to increase the chances of getting a good hit.
- For her role as Hermione Granger in her very first movie “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” she initially had to wear fake buck teeth, in an effort to match her appearance to the character from the novel.
- However, she couldn’t even talk a word clearly with the fake teeth in her mouth. Emma also found the look to be really weird for her, following which the filmmakers decide to drop the idea.
- It is reported that Watson refuses to watch any of her movie scenes that has her character kissing anyone. She claimed that she has not watched her dance in The Rocky Horror Picture Show scene from “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.”
- In preparation for her role as Nicki in “The Bling Ring,” she watched so many reality TV shows including the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” “The Hills,” and especially the TV show “Pretty Wild.” She also listened to “Femme Fatale” by Britney Spears, in an effort to get into the mind frame of her character.
- During the production of “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” she used to bring her pet hamster Millie to the sets frequently. The pet unfortunately passed away just a little while after the shooting began.
- The set department of the movie made sure that Millie had a specially-made hamster coffin, complete with velvet lining, with the name “Millie” engraved on the top. Thinking about it, she claimed that no hamster could have such a better send off.
- While filming the kissing scene in the movie “Noah,” it took Emma and her co-star Douglas Booth, so many takes that her lips started to bleed and Booth had a sore nose and swollen mouth.
- In research for her role as Lena in the 2015 movie “Colonia,” she actually visited the Villa Baviera (former Colonia Dignidad) in September 2014. This was interpreted by the media as her vacation, initially, before the original reason was out.
- In the final scene in the movie “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” she was supposed to hug Harry and Ron as per the script. But, being an eleven year old, she was embarrassed to hug the boys in front of the entire cast. So Chris Columbus had the scene changed into Hermione hugging only Harry, and just shake hands with Ron, after some hesitation.
- Emma claimed in an interview that she even let go of Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, too quickly, following which they had to freeze the scene for few seconds, to make it appear that the hug lasted for at least a few seconds.
- For her movie “Regression,” she made it very clear that she will not be in the rape scene at all, even for simple close-ups of face, and insisted that the filmmakers use body double.
- She claimed that she wanted the audience to tell without second thoughts that it was only a body double, and not Emma who was naked on the screen.
- Filming of the movie “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” was reportedly put on a two-month hiatus – May and June 2006, so that she could take her GCSE exams, while her co-star Daniel Radcliffe could take up his A/S Levels.
- She was offered the lead role of Mia in the award winning movie “La La Land,” but had to turn it down due to her commitment to the “Beauty and the Beast” movie.
- For the movie “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” director Alfonso Cuarón had her and her co-stars, who were the three lead characters; write an essay about their characters in a first-person point of view. Watson, just like her character Hermione would do, wrote a sixteen-page essay.
- It was reported that her movie “The Circle,” had re-shoots taken just four months before its release, in an effort to make her character of Mae, more appealing. However, the test audience reactions after the re-shoot were even worse than the previous test screenings.
- During the filming of “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” in one of the first takes of her character Hermione’s “Cinderella Moment,” she actually tripped in that fancy dress and fell down the stairs.
- It was reported that she interested in the role of Lena in the “Colonia,” because it was the woman who saves her boyfriend and not some knight in shining armor saving the damsel in distress. However, it is said to be just part of the reason for her acceptance.
- According to the script of “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” she was supposed to slap Malfoy, rather than punching him. In the rehearsal, her co-star Tom Felton, who played the role of Malfoy, asked to her slap him, but was taken by surprise, when she smacked him as hard as possible.
- His reaction to the scene was totally genuine, but Emma claimed that she did not know what she was thinking, when she hit him. She felt really terrible about it afterwards and apologized to Felton.
- During the filming of the ballroom scene in the movie “Beauty and the Beast,” she had a very difficult time of not looking at her feet, while performing, as she was very afraid that Dan Stevens, who was wearing steel toed shoes, would accidentally step on her.
- With the wrapping of filming “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” she reportedly considered quitting from the series, but decided against it, when she thought how uncomfortable it would be to watch the next movies in the series, with someone else as Hermione.
- Since 2014, she had been a UN Women Goodwill ambassador. In fact, in September 2014, she delivered an address at UN Headquarters to launch the UN Women campaign HeForShe, which aims at having men advocate for gender equality.
- During the filming of “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” she reportedly used to play with director Alfonso Cuarón’s hair in between takes, and sometimes, even puts it in pigtails. She even claimed once that she was his unofficial hairstylist.
