  1. In preparation for his role as Julian in the movie “Only God Forgives,” he underwent rigorous Muay Thai training for two hours a day, four days a week with Muay Thai master Kiu Puk. He also opted for a traditional Thai diet.
  2. He was said to be the first and only choice of Damien Chazelle, for the role of Neil Armstrong, in the movie “First Man.” He was rumored to be attached to the project in its development stage, but was confirmed only after his “La La Land” movie.
  3. During the filming of a fight scene in the movie “Blade Runner,” he was accidentally punched in the face by his co-star Harrison Ford, who later apologized to him, by inviting him to share a bottle of Scotch whisky.
  4. He claimed in an interview that during the filming of the 2017 movie “Song to Song,” the entire cast and crew worked without any kind of script.
  5. In preparation for his role as Sebastian in the movie “La La Land,” he spent two hours a day, six days a week in piano lessons, before the commencement of the filming. He learned the music by heart that at that shooting, he was able to play all the piano sequences seen in the film.

  8. Once in an interview he claimed that he decided to perform in the movie “Gangster Squad,” only because he wanted to act in a scene with Sean Penn, and also shoot a Tommy gun.
  9. However, when he got to know that he did not have any scenes with Sean Penn, in the entire movie, he was really disappointed.

  11. Director Derk Cianfrance claimed in an interview that he first met with Ryan in the year 2007, at his agent’s house, when they were working on “Blue Valentine.”
  12. Cianfrance asked Gosling that what is there in life he hasn’t done, for which he responded saying he wanted to rob a bank. When asked what has kept him from doing it, he just replied “Being arrested.”
  13. The director asked him, how he would rob a bank, for which he explained saying robbing a bank on a motorcycle would be fast and agile. He added that the helmet would also conceal his identity, and then that he would stash the motorcycle in the back of a truck.
  14. Cianfrance was kind of shocked and excited as he responded saying he was working on a script about a bank robber in exactly the same way. The director felt that Gosling was the right choice to play the role.

It was Gosling who first discovered Neil Armstrong’s love of the theremin, while preparing for his role in “First Man.” He got to know about this, during his background research with Armstrong’s family and friends. When Damien Chazelle and Justin Hurwitz got to know about this, they chose to include the strange instrument in the score.
  16. In the movie “Blade Runner,” the baseline test with K must recite back is said to have been Ryan’s idea, in which he employed an acting technique called “dropping in.” With this technique, he was reportedly able to induce a trance-like and hypnotic effect on his performance.
  17. For the movie “La La Land,” director Damien Chazelle wanted to shoot the scene in the tradition of old musicals without cuts or editing. Gosling, who was learning to play the songs, practiced it perfectly and played the entire sequence in one take on his very first day of shooting.

  26. According to the director Derek Cianfrance, it took 22 takes for Ryan Gosling, to film the shot of Ryan speeding the motorcycle past the intersection before 36 cars crashed into one another in the movie “The Place Beyond the Pines.”
  27. Initially, the director wanted a stunt double to perform the scene, but Gosling insisted that he would do it, as it was not possible to hide the stuntman. He had been so nervous to get the shot right, that he kept chewing his shirt after every take. By the time the stunt sequence was over, there was a hole in his shirt.
  28. In the movie “The Place Beyond the Pines,” the baby who played his child, actually got bonded with him naturally, and can also be seen cuddling to him unprompted during on-screen filming.
  29. His co-star and future partner Eva Mendes noted in an interview that Gosling is very good with kids, and that during promotion of the movie, whenever the baby starts crying, he would hold him, and that the baby would immediately stop crying.
  30. Ryan was the first Canadian-born performer in over 60 years to be nominated for an Academy Award in the best actor category, for his performance in “Half Nelson.”
